Using chisels and carving knives, a master carver brings the details of the carousel figure to life. Details in the decorations of the figure are intricately hand carved by the master carvers.

 

Achieving this beautiful level of detail in woodcarving requires the talented master carvers touch as well as many hours of painstaking labour. The parts are carved separately, then glued together and reinforced by special dowels for perfect assembly.

 

A carousel figure is born and ready for finishing. After sanding the figure, the first of many coats of primer are applied in order to achieve the proper base for the artistic designs and paint.

 

The colors and intricate designs are selected by an artist who specializes in finishing and decoration of the carousel figures.
