Garden Grove is a city in northern Orange County, California. The population was 170,752 at the 2010 census.

Garden Grove was founded by Alonzo Cook in 1874 as a rural town and grew to its current size through the 1950s and 1960s with suburban development on large subdivisions (such as those on which Stanton, West Garden Grove and much of Westminster lies), coupled with agricultural business growth from nearby established groves of Valencia oranges: hence its name. It has developed into one of the most populous cities in Orange County, surpassing Santa Ana in population since 1990.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of , of which is land and (0.6%) is water.

The 2010 United States Census reported that Garden Grove had a population of 170,752. The population density was 16,027.6 people per square mile (6,226.2/km²). The racial makeup of Garden Grove was 87,655 (47.7%) White (46.9% Non-Hispanic White), 587 (0.3%) African American, 2,987 (1.6%) Native American, 12,452 (7.9%) Asian, 466 (0.3% Pacific Islander), 37,123 (21.6% Non-Hispanic African American), 40,423 (23.3% Hispanic or Latino American), 8,819 (5.7%) from other races, and 7,062 (4.5%) from two or more races. Hispanics or Latinos of any race were 53,292 persons (28.9%).

The Census reported that 153,064 people (97.1% of the population) lived in households, 2,320 (1.6%) lived in non-institutionalized group quarters, and 675 (0.4%) were institutionalized.

There were 42,380 households, out of which 17,863 (43.1%) had children under the age of 18 living in them, 23,448 (56.5%) were opposite-sex married couples living together, 6,551 (16.3%) had a female householder with no husband present, 2,945 (7.0%) had a male householder with no wife present. There were 2,263 (5.4%) unmarried opposite-sex partnerships and 259 (0.6%) same-sex married couples or partnerships. 7,091 households (16.9%) were made up of individuals and 1,795 (4.2%) had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.04; the average family size was 3.41.

The population was spread out with 37,485 people (24.5%) under the age of 18, 15,201 people (9.3%) aged 18 to 24, 40,805 people (27.6%) aged 25 to 44, 28,848 people (19.7%) aged 45 to 64, and 11,141 people (7.4%) who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 33.4 years. For every 100 females there were 97.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95 males.
