More About Yorba Linda, California

The city of Yorba Linda, California grew out of what was originally part of Rancho La Habra land. In 1886, the Santa Fe Railroad route to San Bernardino came through the area and its station was originally called simply "Warner's Station." The name did not last and apparently originated from a native American word "yorbal," for which there are several interpretations. It is pronounced YOR-bal (like yard) - LEE-na.

In 1887, Lewis Warner bought ten acres in what is now downtown Yorba Linda to create a home for the new station agent. This was to become the area's first subdivision. The first house, dubbed "the big white house", was built in 1888 by Mr. Warner, who sold it to Andrew Kelsey.

The area experienced significant growth after being incorporated as the Town of Norba Linda on December 30, 1911 with a population of about 200 people. In 1917, residents voted for incorporation with Riverside County and part of the City of Los Angeles was annexed to Yorba Linda giving it its current dimensions. The City's name was changed to the City of Yorba Linda in 1919. In 1986, residents chose to have the city incorporated into California's "Secondary County" system and elections for county supervisor were eliminated from that year onwards...more at Wikipedia article on Yorba Linda.

Imagine Yorba Linda, Calif. today. A city of 115,000 people which works tirelessly to promote itself around the world. A city promoted by its founders and its citizens as a place where you can be yourself, where you can live happily and happily raise a family, work hard, play hard yet still have time for all the things that matter most in life. That's precisely what we're delivering to our citizens today - with very few exceptions.

The City of Yorba Linda is an example of how not to run a city for one simple reason: the City Council has turned its back on those who have made it possible for Yorba Linda to be the wonderful place it is today. We have a city council that has decided to use this city as their own private piggy bank and the taxpayers here have had enough of it. That's why we need new leadership on the City Council. We need new elected officials who are going to work with businesses, not against them; who are going to focus on meeting our financial obligations and maintaining Yorba Linda's AAA bond rating; and who will listen to what the people of Yorba Linda want, not what the politicians want.
